Columbus kicked off to Ardscoil to begin this fiercely fought rugby match. A good return run from Jamie Griffin left Ardscoil in a promising position inside the opposition half. Columbus escaped narrowly with a harsh penalty for offside. These calls continued throughout the game, Ardscoil ended up with a tally of twenty penalties, something they will have to improve upon against future opposition. A good kick for touch from Eoin Cahill left the boys in a great attacking position deep in the Columbus twenty-two. The lineout ball was sloppy from Columbus with great pressure from Lochlann Kelleher, the ball was turned over. The forwards advanced up the field with gusto. Their hard work provided clean ball for the backs with help from the superb Caoilte Kelly. The ball was moved from Culann Carbery to Eoin Cahill. Cahill dummied the pass and stepped back inside, sending the defenders for a hot dog. He ran over another tackler to score with an outstretched arm. Cahill then proceeded to nail the conversion to put Ardscoil seven points clear. Some valiant defending from Ardscoil on their own line held Columbus out as the referees blew for half time.

Some inspirational words from Mr Reeves and Tadgh at half time set the tone for the second half. Culann Carbery began the second half with a fantastic restart. Ardscoil were far less dominant in this half. Columbus put a lot of pressure on the backline with some clever moves. Thomas Keane suffered a bad head knock after a brave thumping tackle. Help was at hand with Cathal Wall coming on off the bench and slotting in at thirteen. Tom O’Connor also had to leave the field of play after he collided with some water bottles. The talented Ian Fleming came on, a man who has been in great form in previous matches. Columbus had a great line break but a courageous tackle from Danny Loughman stopped them in their tracks. A strong scrum from Columbus allowed their second centre to break the defensive line and dotted down for a try and also converting the kick. A few errors on Ardscoils behalf led to another easy try on the wing. They failed to score the kick. Ardscoil needed the ball back and a super chase from James McGrath won back the restart. Columbus defended well and forced a knock-on. They attempted to run the ball out of defence but Danny Loughman held up the runner and forced a penalty. Some massive carries from the pack especially Conor Black and Aodhan Cullen enabled Aodhan to burst over the whitewash. This left the scores tied at 12-12 with thirty seconds to go. Cahill was left with a difficult kick to send the boys to the next round. Everyone watched on as Eoin lined up the kick. You could almost hear a pin drop. Cahill stepped back and stroked the ball over the bar. Ardscoil celebrated wildly. A Columbus mistake ended the game and Ardscoil were the victorious underdogs.
