A contract can be terminated by :
Agreement , frustration and breach of contract.

Remedies for a Breach of Contract :
Rescind the contract , sue for financial compensation and seek ‘specific performance’.

The legal rights of consumers :
Goods must be of merchantable quality,
goods must be fit for purpose intended ,
goods must be as described ,
the buyer is entitled to legal ownership and quiet possession ,
services must be provided using care and diligence ,
competent person with skill and good quality materials ,
consumers renting buying on hire purchase have the same rights as somebody who bought the product upfront with cash.

The legal responsibilities of retailers :
Legally responsible for any faults in the product they sell ,
retailers must respect the legal rights of consumers , signs limiting the retailers liability are illegal , illegal to demand payment for any unsolicited goods .
Remedies : Repair , replacement and refund.
Consumer protection act 2007 : Prohibits false product descriptions , prohibits false prices , prohibits misleading/false advertising , prohibits businesses from engaging in aggressive practises.
National consumer agency : Enforces consumer law , provides info + advise to public and businesses , advises the government , publishes a consumer protection list
Non legislitive ways of dealing with complaints : talk to retailer and seek help from a third party .
Legislitive ways : small claims court and hire a solicitor (district court)
Consumers association of Ireland : publishes reports and surveys , highlights problem areas , runs a consumer advice service , lobbying the government .
