The Edmund Ignatius Rice Library at Ardscoil Na Trionoide has over five thousand five hundred titles in stock, ranging across Junior and Senior Fiction and Non-Fiction. The Library also has a growing periodical and reference section in addition to the main stock. There are also computers available for supervised student use, a photocopier for staff use only and a designated study area for student use during opening hours.

Teachers are also invited to bring their classes to the library during their timetabled periods and every effort is made to facilitate this.

Organisation of Stock:

The Library is organised as follows:

Junior Fiction – shelved alphabetically according to author’s surname. Junior Fiction is easily recognisable by the yellow band on the book’s spine. Fiction is clearly most related to the English subject area.

Senior Fiction – shelved alphabetically according to author’s surname. Senior Fiction is easily recognisable by the blue band on the book’s spine. Fiction is clearly most related to the English subject area.

Class Sets – consisting of some D.E.S. recommended/prescribed novels available for teachers to borrow thorough the Library Lending System.

Non-Fiction – shelved according to the Dewey Decimal Classification of Books. Stock is aimed at being as cross-curricular as possible. Markers above the shelves indicate guide numbers to assist students in sourcing a book. Non-Fiction also includes a growing collection of literary and literary criticism texts for prescribed poets and playwrights on the Leaving Certificate course.

FullSizeRender (1)Periodicals – are shelved according to title and year and month. They are for Library use only and may not be borrowed. Periodicals in modern languages, science, nature and history documents are some examples of periodicals that are found on our shelves.

Reference materials – shelved according to type of reference material (e.g., dictionaries, encyclopaedias, etc).


All students who are enrolled on the School’s roll-books are automatically members of the Library.

Teaching and Ancillary Staff are also members of the Library.

Borrowings and Returns are made through the Library Computer Lending System. The system shows current borrowings, overdue book and lost books as well as having a reserve system for books in high demand.

Students may borrow two books for two weeks unless a selected title is a short term/day loan. Loans may be renewed twice.

Staff may borrow three titles for two weeks and renew loans twice.

Careers Section – available for all students to consult in conjunction with the School’s Guidance Service.
