The Health Promoting School concept is a whole school approach to all aspects of health and wellbeing.

It involves social, emotional, mental, spiritual, cognitive and physical health.

As a result of research carried out in January 2015, it was decided to focus our efforts on mental health for the following 12 months. A number of initiatives were undertaken to help raise awareness of mental health issues, equip people with tools to deal with issues such as anxiety and stress and to ensure that the atmosphere of our school is one of openness and support where members of the school community feel free to seek help.

Since we first formed our HPS team in September 2014, lots of work has been done by students, staff and parents and the wider community in promoting the message of positive mental health. Through this work we have also achieved the Amber Flag Award in association with Suicide Aware and have become an Ambassador School for Cycle Against Suicide.

In 2016, our Wellbeing Week saw a huge range of activities in a ‘something for everyone’ weeklong event.

We are proud to confirm that Ardscoil na Trionoide have been awarded a Health Promoting School Flag in recognition of the ongoing work in the promotion of health among our whole school community.

Going forward, we aim to continue the good work which has been done so far with a possible theme change yet to be decided. We hope to plan more initiatives for the year ahead and will keep you informed of our plans for the year.
