Historian James Durney, who visited Ardscoil last week.

The Leaving Certificate students of History were delighted to welcome two of Kildare’s best known historians to the school on Thursday 18th September. James Durney has written a number of books on both Irish and international history.
His latest work is ‘Irish casualties in the Korean War 1950-53‘. James has worked with TG4 on the development of their documentary series ‘Mobs Mheiriceá’. He was also consultant and chief researcher on ‘War Stories’ from Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.

Mario is an executive librarian in Kildare county library and has published books on ‘Kildare in 1798’ and other local and Irish history topics.

Students listened to the two speakers giving advice about topics they could choose for their Research Study Report. Afterwards there was a Q&A session and students got the opportunity to ask the historians for guidance with their individual projects. Students can make an appointment to visit Mario and James at Newbridge library at any stage and use the vast array of sources available there. If students need to contact Newbridge library they can email Mario at mcorrigan@kildarecoco.ie
