Leaving Certificate
The Leaving Certificate is the final stage of post-primary education, completed over two years (5th and 6th year). It offers students a broad range of subjects, allowing them to build on their strengths and prepare for further education, training, or employment.
Most students study seven subjects, including core subjects of Irish, English, and Mathematics, along with optional subjects that reflect their interests and career goals.
Assessment is mainly through state examinations at the end of 6th year, with some subjects also including project work, practical assessments, or oral exams. Results are used for entry to colleges, universities, apprenticeships, and other training opportunities.
The Leaving Certificate helps students develop knowledge, skills, and independence, supporting them to make confident choices about their future.
